What’s in your food?
If you are around my age or older (I’m in my 30′s), think back to elementary school. How many kids did you know with food allergies? My guess is – not many. Definitely not as many as you are seeing today or even the variety of allergies. Food allergies and food intolerance are on the rise and it is no coincidence that “food engineering” has come a long way too. I guess there are pros and cons to this but we’ve really mutated our nutrition and therefore, our bodies.
I wouldn’t classify myself as the healthiest person on the planet, but I really try to pay attention to what goes in my body. About three years ago, I began eating a completely clean diet. All fresh foods, nothing processed. I cooked everything from scratch. Turns out I enjoyed the process and the result (have you seen my blog?). The effects were incredible. My energy shot through the roof, my hair and nails began to grow, I lost weight, and generally felt better. For me, it became an impossibility to do this 100% of the time, but now, I try my best. I feel like I’ve found a good balance. Unfortunately, even when we eat the cleanest diet possible, we are not immune to the effects of food engineering. Even the most basic foods (apples, corn, tomatoes) are not the same food our ancestors ate. They may look the same, but things are not always what they seem.
A friend of mine sent this youtube video to me a while back and you should watch it – it is worth your time. If you want to understand where your food comes from, how it is grown, why we are seeing gluten intolerance, food allergies, and sky-high prices for organic food (thank you over-regulation), why I call Whole Foods “Whole Paycheck”, then you will be pleased you took the time to view this. If nothing else, this video is “food” for thought.
